The problem with Cavalier isn t the build. The problem is the charge bug, And the mounted combat bug, and the no mount attacks bug, And the pathfinding making you skip turns bug.... 100%. I find myself often switching battle modes to fix bugs and it’s annoying as hell.

To make the mount keep up I took Boon Companion as her level 3 feet. I ended up grabbing more levels of both classes (she's something like Paladin 8 /Cavalier 8 now). Boon Companion made sure the mount stayed up to level through the first 4 levels of Paladin.
